Automated Dynamic Cube Attack on Block Ciphers

چکیده
A little work has ever been performed in cryptanalysis of block ciphers using cube technique. This paper presents a new framework for an efficient key recovery attack on block ciphers using a kind of dynamic cube attack. In this method, a cube tester is positioned at the middle of the cipher which is extended in two directions over the maximum possible upper and lower rounds, provided that some subkey bits are guessed. It is shown that an automated algorithm for this dynamic cube attack on block ciphers can be realized. Furthermore, we show its effectiveness on two lightweight block ciphers KATAN and SIMON. Our results show that this method can break 118 and 155 out of 254 rounds of KATAN32 in non-full-codebook and full-codebook attack scenarios, respectively. In the case of SIMON32/64, we succeed to cryptanalyze 17 and 22 out of 32 rounds, in the same scenarios. Both results show that it can absolutely compete with the well-established and mature methods of cryptanalysis of block ciphers, such as linear, differential and meet in the middle attack families.

متن کاملCube Attacks on Non-Blackbox Polynomials Based on Division Property (Full Version)
The cube attack is a powerful cryptanalytic technique and is especially powerful against stream ciphers. Since we need to analyze the complicated structure of a stream cipher in the cube attack, the cube attack basically analyzes it by regarding it as a blackbox. Therefore, the cube attack is an experimental attack, and we cannot evaluate the security when the size of cube exceeds an experiment...
متن کاملAlgebraic, AIDA/Cube and Side Channel Analysis of KATAN Family of Block Ciphers
This paper presents the first results on AIDA/cube, algebraic and sidechannel attacks on variable number of rounds of all members of the KATAN family of block ciphers. Our cube attacks reach 60, 40 and 30 rounds of KATAN32, KATAN48 and KATAN64, respectively. In our algebraic attacks, we use SAT solvers as a tool to solve the quadratic equations representation of all KATAN ciphers. We introduced...
متن کاملBreaking the Estream Finalists and AES Modes of Operation Faster than Exhaustive Search
Time-memory-data (TMD) trade-off attack is a wellstudied technique that has been applied on many stream and block ciphers. Current TMD attacks by Biryukov-Shamir (BSTMD), Hong-Sarkar (HS-TMD) and Dunkelman-Keller (DKTMD) has been applied to ciphers like Grain-v1 and AES-192/256 modes of operation to break them with online complexity faster than exhaustive search. However, there is still a limit...
متن کاملSide Channel Cube Attacks on Block Ciphers
In this paper we formalize the notion of leakage attacks on iterated block ciphers, in which the attacker can find (via physical probing, power measurement, or any other type of side channel) one bit of information about the intermediate state of the encryption after each round. Since bits computed during the early rounds can be typically represented by low degree multivariate polynomials, cube...
